Set up Google Consent Mode v2 on Shopify

Pass consent to Google Analytics 4, Google Ads and Google Tag Manager so your measurement follows each visitor's choice.

Updated

Google Consent Mode v2 tells Google's tags what a visitor agreed to. Under Google's EU user consent policy, you need to pass these consent signals to use data from EEA and UK visitors for ad measurement, personalisation and remarketing.

  1. Open Consent integration and choose Google Consent Mode.
  2. Pick a mode. Advanced loads Google's tags straight away but tells them to send only cookieless signals until consent. Basic holds the tags back entirely until the visitor agrees. If you aren't sure, ask whoever manages your Google Ads.
  3. Add the IDs you use: your GA4 measurement ID, your Google Ads ID and your Google Tag Manager container ID.
  4. Save. Consent defaults are then set before any Google tag runs, and updated the moment the visitor chooses.

Using Google Tag Manager? A ready-made tag template is included, so your GTM tags can read the visitor's consent.

Note: “Connected” means the integration is set up in the app. To confirm it on your storefront, use Google Tag Assistant or the consent report in Google Ads.
