Shopify's Customer Privacy API

How CookieType passes each visitor's choice to Shopify's Customer Privacy API, and why it switches off Shopify's own cookie banner for you.

Updated

Shopify has its own record of each visitor's consent, called the Customer Privacy API. Shopify, the apps you install and your custom pixels all check it before they track. CookieType writes every visitor's choice to it, so they only run once the visitor has agreed. This is always on; there is nothing to set up.

  • Analytics and Marketing map to Shopify's categories of the same name.
  • Functional maps to Shopify's preferences.
  • A Do not sell or share choice is passed on as a sale-of-data opt-out.

Shopify's own banner

Shopify can show a basic cookie banner of its own. CookieType switches it off and keeps Shopify's consent regions matched to yours, so a visitor never sees two banners and Shopify never asks for consent under different rules from yours.
