CookieType does not edit your theme code. It adds the banner through a Shopify app embed — a switch in the theme editor that you turn on once. Because nothing is pasted into your theme, updating or editing the theme does not remove the banner.
- In CookieType, open the setup wizard's App embed step, or the reminder on the dashboard, and follow the link. It opens your theme editor with the right panel ready.
- In the theme editor, open App embeds and switch CookieType on.
- Click Save in the theme editor.
- Go back to CookieType. It checks your theme and confirms the embed is on.
Note: Switching to a different theme? App embeds are per theme — turn it on in the new theme too before you publish it.
Cookie banner not showing on your Shopify store?
- Check the embed is on in the theme that is published, not only in a draft theme.
- Once you have made a choice on your own store, the banner stays hidden for you. Open the store in a private window to see it again.
