CookieType installs like any Shopify app. The first time you open it, a setup wizard walks you through the four things the banner needs before it can go live.
- Install CookieType from the Shopify App Store and approve the permissions. The app asks only for what it needs: your privacy settings, your theme (to place the banner and read your brand colours) and your store policies (to pre-fill your privacy policy link). It never reads customer or order data.
- Region — choose where the banner should appear. Pick the regions you sell to, or one rule for everyone. See Regions and the privacy laws they cover.
- Layout — choose a box, a bar or a centred window. You can change this and everything else later in Cookie banner.
- Content — check the wording your visitors will see. Your privacy policy link is filled in from your Shopify policies.
- App embed — turn the banner on in your theme. The wizard opens the theme editor for you and checks whether the embed is on. See Turn on the app embed.
Note: The banner only appears on your storefront once the app embed is on. If you finish the wizard without it, the dashboard reminds you until it is done.
After setup
The dashboard shows a quickstart checklist, how many visitors saw the banner and what they chose. Good next steps: scan your store for cookies, connect Google Consent Mode if you advertise with Google, and run the compliance check.
